Transfer Out
Students requesting to transfer out must do the following:
- Apply to the next school you plan to attend as soon as possible. Do not wait until your program has ended. Apply to the new school before requesting to transfer out.
- Go to CE1 and submit a completed Transfer Out Request Form. You can download this file above or get one from CE1.
- Submit your acceptance or admission letter from your new school and/or transfer-in form from your new school.
- Apply to the next school you plan to attend as soon as possible. Do not wait until your program has ended. Apply to the new school before requesting to transfer out.
- Go to the CE1 and submit a completed Transfer Out Request Form. You can download this file above or get one from CE1. An Immigration Advisor will contact you with a status update.
- Submit your acceptance or admission letter from your new school and/or transfer-in form from your new school.
- You must continue to attend your classes while your transfer out request is pending. If you stop attending class, you may fall out of status and you will no longer be eligible to transfer to your next school. Once your transfer out request is processed, you will receive an email confirmation from an Immigration Advisor and they will inform you if any other documents or information are required. Until you receive this email, you are required to attend your classes at UC Irvine Division of Continuing Education.

I am a new student and I have just arrived in the United States. I want to cancel my program at UC Irvine Division of Continuing Education and transfer to another school. Can I transfer?
A new student who has just arrived in the United States can transfer only if your new school's program starts less than 30 days after your arrival in the United States.
What happens after I submit the Transfer Out Request Form?
An Immigration Advisor will contact you by email with the status of your transfer out request. They will inform you if any information or documents are missing.
What if I did not submit an acceptance letter or admission letter with my Transfer Out Request Form?
It is your responsibility to submit a copy of your acceptance/admission letter before your current program has ended. If you are unable to submit a copy of your acceptance/admission letter before your current program ends, please speak with an Immigration Advisor.
When will my I-20 be transferred out to my next school?
After you have submitted the required documents, your I-20 will be electronically transferred out in the SEVIS database the day after your current program ends. Please be aware that your next school of choice is unable to create a transfer-in I-20 for you until after UCI Division of Continuing Education has released your I-20.
What if I need my I-20 to be transferred out earlier?
Please see an Immigration Advisor during walk-in advising hours Monday through Thursday between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in CE1.
What if I plan to travel outside of the U.S. after transferring out and before starting my program at my next school?
You will need to contact your next school directly ahead of time to inform them of your plans to travel outside of the U.S.
How many schools may I request to transfer out?
You can only request to transfer out to one school.
Can I cancel my request to transfer out?
If you need to cancel your transfer out request, you must email a cancellation request before the last of your program to ImmigrationOfficials@ce.uci.edu. Change requests received on or after the last day of your current program will not be allowed.
What if I am academically disqualified?
You will not be eligible to transfer out in active status. Please see an Immigration Advisor if you have any questions.
