Attendance Policies
Teachers submit each student's attendance in every class which is recorded daily. All new and returning students are limited to a total of 39 absence hours each quarter.
Basic Rules
1) To be marked “present” for any class a student must be able and willing to participate in class that day. This means having the needed materials, e.g., books, paper, pen/pencil, assignments, etc. This also means following the teacher’s directions and doing class activities for that day.
2) It is the teacher’s responsibility to record all absences. Any time you do not attend class for any reason, your teacher must mark you absent. Please do not ask your teacher to erase or excuse your absence if you were not in class that day.
3) We record your absences from the first day to the last day of the program.
4) It is your responsibility to know how many hours you have been absent.
5) If you are absent, please contact your teacher or a classmate to get any work you missed.
Any student who is absent a total of:
15 hours = Warning Letter
25 hours = Final Warning Letter and meeting with Academic Advisor
40 hours = Disqualification
If you are late to class:
1-14 minutes late = 1 tardy
15+ minutes late = 1 absent hour
3 tardies = 1 absent hour
Examples of Unacceptable Reasons for Absences:
Excused Absences
Generally, we do not erase (or excuse) your absence hours even if you have a good reason to be absent. However, we know that students will sometimes be absent. Therefore, we allow you 39 hours, as stated above.
